How AVID started

In 1985, Dr. Stoddard formed American Veterinary Identification Devices (AVID), recognizing the potential of injectable electronic identification systems for use in animal applications. One such system was in existence at that time, but it had many design failings. With license rights on a patent purchased rom International Identification Incorporated in New York as the starting point, the design and production of a transponder and reader targeted for veterinary use was undertaken. After five years, and work resulting in the award of several more patents, the AVID system was ready for the market.

AVID has developed reliable markets in pets, exotics, and laboratory applications. Many innovations introduced by AVID have been emulated by the competition and become market standard expectations. Tracking of all numbers, 3ccc syringe delivery systems, multi-mode reading systems, and pocket size readers are examples of standards set by AVID.

As of , the AVID Microchip has reunited pets with their families!
