Free Reader Placement

In order to provide the best possible service to your clients and patients, we are offering a free reader placement program. The purpose of the program is to improve the probability of recovering a pet that has been permanently identified with the AVID FriendChip. Since many animals that are lost will end up at a shelter, AVID will provide an Identity Tag Reader free of charge to a qualifying shelter.

In order for your shelter to qualify, only two criteria must be met:

1. You, the veterinarian, must purchase an AVID system and use it actively to identify animals. As the purchasing veterinarian, you may then designate a shelter to receive a free reader.
2. Your designated shelter must promise to scan all animals upon admission and prior to euthanasia, placement or sale. This promise must be a commitment letter written on the shelter's letterhead, addressed to AVID. (If needed, call AVID Sales Dept. for example.)

Several sponsoring veterinarians have been able to get additional public relations benefit by donating the free reader to the shelter and having this event covered by local television and newspaper.

• You and your staff can promote this service by informing your clients that the shelter has a reader and is committed to scanning all animals. This brings added revenue to your hospital. Veterinarians are charging $25-$40 for the procedure.
• Your image will be one of a progressive veterinarian using state-of-the-art equipment.
• Your individual animal record keeping will be improved and facilitated. This is especially important with Mrs. Jones who owns 3 Siamese cats, 2 African Grey Parrots and 4 Black Labs, all of which are breeding. This is even more critical if you offer a HMO, health insurance or puppy and kitten packages.

1. Anyone who has ever lost a pet can attest to the emotional distress as well as the real expense incurred trying to recover their pet. Time off work to call the shelter, make flyers, call veterinarians, mail flyers, visit the shelters, dealing with the kids, the spouse, the job, the neighbors and so forth. Recovery efforts can easily burn up hundreds, if not thousands of dollars. I won't even try to place a dollar value on the emotional distress.
2. Since your staff can offer the service by explaining that the shelter is scanning all animals, your client compliance will obviously be high.

   3. The handling cost of processing an animal will drop dramatically because the animal can be returned directly to the owner without having to be housed at the shelter. The revenue stream, such as stray animal fines, impound fees, etc., will be maintained, but the cost significantly reduced on microchipped animals.
   4. Expensive shelter enlargement programs could be postponed and/or adoptable animals could receive additional time. These are just some of the reasons I am excited about our reader placement program. Everybody benefits.
